Inspiring Talk delivered to Finalists of Mr and Mrs UAE International

Image
Realising your Superpower can take you to the TOP ... even get you a Crown !! I had the opportunity to deliver a talk at a beauty pageant in April 2023, where I had a 10-minute slot to inspire the finalists of Mr. and Mrs. UAE International contest here in Dubai. I focussed on the mindset, the inner chatter and self-talk, and on the one superpower that every person has that differentiates them from the rest. As much as it was applicable to the pageant finalists, it is equally applicable to YOU. I would say, take out 10 minutes and hear what I share with the emerging stars.  You are one emerging star too. #mindset   #superpower   #coaching   #winnermindset

Self Doubt

Image
Self Doubt prevents you from achieving your goals and dreams. My talk at the Metaverse Mastery Event of April focussed on self-doubt that paralysis people and stops them from achieving their dreams, goals, and desires. As a coach, one of the crucial things I deal with is the inherent self-doubt people have. While confident of their current space, they are full of doubt when it comes to achieving their goals. There is uncertainty. As a coach, I help them get out of that zone and put them on the path of action where all such negative emotions begin to dissolve because of sheer action. With all those movie references I make in my talks, no wonder I get the name of #FilmyCoach

The Education and AI battle is ON

Image
I read an article about a university in UAE reinstating paper-pen exams to combat the ChatGPT threat.     We are at an inflexion point and the education system which has already been undergoing a reconsideration and redesign, is being subjected to the onslaught of the AI revolution in a manner that it is completely taken by surprise. While the 'threat' of students using AI tools to submit assignments and answer their tests is Real; but so is the fact that these very same students are using and will use AI extensively in their daily life for personal as well as professional tasks. So by by banning the AI tools, are we preventing them from learning the right skills for their future??? But on the other hand, we know that early and over reliance on the tools leads to stunted growth of mental faculties. With mobile phones, we lost the ability of remembering phone numbers which led us to not developing number-remember faculties - resulting in we not remembering any kind of long...

Change Management at S P Jain Dubai

Interacting with 'experienced' students is a different kind of fun ... they challenge you at a different level altogether. Last week, I was at  SP Jain School of Global Management - Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore & Sydney  to take a session on Change Management for the students of their 'Global MBA' program students who are currently in Dubai. It was great to share my perspective and experience with inquisitive and sharp minds. Rather than even attempt 'teach' Change Mgmt; my approach was to help them see that change management is not just a corporate concept but the very fabric of life and one could learn from personal experience as much as from books, models and frameworks. it was fun !!  Hope the experience of the experienced 'students' was the same :) The Best way to learn is to share and teach ... so my assignment for the class is to share their learnings from my session on linkedin.  Thanks to  Dr. Akanksha Khanna  and  Raeiz Mohamed Rafick  f...

The Elevator Pitch is an Interview Game Changer

Image
The concept of Elevator Pitch can help you make the most effective and efficient use of the short window of opportunity called a Job Interview.  In a job interview, time is of the essence. You have a limited amount of time to impress upon your potential employer; your skills and experience, and demonstrate why you are the best candidate for the job. This is where the concept of the elevator pitch comes into play. An elevator pitch is a brief, concise, and impactful communication delivered in the time it takes to ride an elevator, typically 30 to 60 seconds. The goal of an elevator pitch is to capture the listener's attention, make a strong impression, and leave them wanting to know more about you. Now, let's apply this to job interviews.  An average job interview lasts about 45 minutes, during which you have to convey your entire career, key achievements, your skills and capabilities and why you are the best fit for the role. It's a lot to cover as compared to the time ...

The 3 Biggest Challenges candidates face in an Interview

Image
I did a Poll on Linkedin to identify the biggest challenges that job seekers face during interviews  and the result was surprising in a way.  It was a split vote with no clear winner :)  Each of the options/challenges got around 30% votes indicating a near tie in the results.  Although I was hoping that one of the options would have a higher vote, indicating it was a clear winner (biggest challenge individuals face in the interview); in my heart, I probably knew the 3 challenges were pretty much equally a problem and the results would probably average out – which is exactly what happened.  The top three challenges outlined in the poll were  (1) expressing oneself,  (2) recalling events when asked, and (3) articulating why one is a good fit for the role.  Challenge 1: Expressing oneself One of the biggest challenges during job interviews is expressing oneself effectively.  You have a short window of time to showcase yourself (literally as a pr...
