World Wide Release

This is the age of World Wide Releases ...

Yes .. I am talking about Movies ...

Be it Bollywood (Indian) or Hollywood (American) Movies ;
These days movies are released all over the world pretty simultaneously unlike the yester years when the movies took several months and sometimes a year or more to be to released over seas ...

And with the Internet becoming omnipresent movies are also available on the web for download ... (of course illegally - pirated copies - camera prints and otherwise shot in theatres etc ...)

Over the years I had observed the internet availablity of movies coming closer to the actual date of release of movies ... from months it shrunk to months and then to days ... in the past 6 months, i heard several people talk about movies being made available on the intenet for download almost after 2-3 days of release ... weekend upload after movie release on Friday ...

I was almost shocked (or lets be more specific ... SURPRISED) to hear from a friend that a certain much-hyped much-awaited Hollywood movie was available for download on the internet on FRIDAY ... the day of the release .. almost simultaneous or maybe even before the release of the movie in some time zones of the world ...

How could that be .. i said to him ...

He replied ...

"Thats what I call a World Wide release .... It now includes the World Wide Web too"

I couldn't help but smile ...
I couldn't help but post it here ...

I guess internet piracy and piracy in general is here to stay as long as the economic dynamics of film making and distribution keep the theatre ticket prices very high ...

Same holds good for BOOKS too .... piracy is so prevelant in there too ... simply because the cost / price of the book is exhorbitant at times ...

The value of a book is something that cannot be measured ... bit keep the prices high adn ensure the piracy engine to start rolling ...

Its all about Distribution and Circulation ...

The 'Pirates' often would argue that the 'creators' of the movies (producer/director etc) and books (authors) wanted their creation to reach a vast majority ...

The economic engine of the supply chain between them and their consumers creates such an impact on the actual price of the product (as against the cost of product) that they defeat the purpose of their exitence ... the purpose of mass distribution and circulation in the vast majority ...

So ... essentially the 'Pirates' are doing nothing but Social Justice ... doing what the creators wnated in the first place ... giving the consumers what is rightfully theirs minus the supply chain contribution to the cost :-)

We humans are so creative :-)

Pre-cap --
My next blog will be about the series of 'good news' that have come to me from all quarters in the past 6 months ... an apt time to post them ... at the aend of the first half of 2006 :-)
