Hey Google, Find my Spectacles

"Hey Google, Find my spectacles and the Book I was reading last night. And yes, my keys too"

For years, being forgetful, I always wished there was a Google search option for my keys, books, and random things that I kept somewhere and then forgot.

How about "Hey Siri, remind me which store en route to the office yesterday had that red and yellow Deadpool-Wolverine T-shirt in its window showcase."

Wouldn't it be great if an app was able to answer that question?

We are in the era, when THAT is actually possible. Hopefully soon, the 'feature' will be available and free to use by all.

BUT …

For the AI to be able to find your things for you in your life, you will need to give it 'access' to your life.

A complete unhindered 24X7 access to your life. Bye Bye Privacy.

You will either need to wear a device or the mobile becomes the device which has AUDIO and VIDEO Input switched ON all the time.

Whatever you see and don't see around you will constantly need to be recorded in video and audio for the AI to do its job of helping you with your life.

Scary? You say you won't do it?

Your mobile phone is already listening to you 24X7 … how do you think it responds to 'OK Google / Hey Siri' and how do you think you start seeing ads about things you had discussed with people but haven't yet 'searched' for it online. How do they know? you practically told them.

Your smart watch, Fitbit (and other activity monitors) are already 'tracking' you 24X7 - what are you doing, where are you going, when are you sleeping (including deep sleep) and what your health vitals are … everything being monitored and tracked 24X7.

Privacy is practically a myth in today's world.

Now think .. does giving 'video' access to life around you sound that scary?

Or is it just another logical step in the gradual and increasing invasion of privacy that we have approved and allowed.

While this conversational has been personal till this point, lets bring in the organization lens.

Employees would like to preserve their privacy.

Organizations would like to monitor their employees and their productivity

More and more intrusive tools will emerge which will help organizations monitor people.

We already have many tools which track login / logout from company system or laptop indicating actual time worked on the system and entry / exit from company premises which indicate time spent in office premise where the employee's desk is and time spent elsewhere (cafetaria, tapri, washroom). These tools will only get more elaborate and intrusive … and employees will prefer to work remotely in a bid to escape them.

What kind of organization culture will emerge?

How will managers manage such a workforce?

How will leaders lead such an organization?

The Challenges for the Managers and Leaders of the Future will lie in the answers to these questions about Culture.

Would love to hear your thoughts.
